DAPSS Staff and Cadets Step Up to Volunteer

On Monday, February 5th 2018 several Academy cadets and staff members participated in our school’s annual day of service. This year the Academy, in conjunction with the Wilmington Department of Parks, scheduled a park clean-up in the City of Wilmington. Cadets and staff volunteered their time to pick up trash and debris, rake leaves and spread wood chips on the children’s playground at the Detective Thomas P. Conaty Jr. Park located in the Trolley Square section of the city. This park holds a special place in the hearts of all public safety personnel as it is named in honor of Det. Conaty, who was the last Wilmington Police Department officer killed in the line of duty back on December 26th 1946. Cadet volunteers, Angel Castillo, Destiny Fisher, Andrew Bullock, Thomas Reinhart, Keith Harmon, Leslie Benitez, Xinyi Xiao and Gi Gera Jackson worked extremely hard and got a lot accomplished during the morning work session. A special thank you goes out to Academy staff members, Ms. McGonigal, Ms. Knupp, Ms. DiFilippo and Mr. Harrison for volunteering their time and supervising the event. The Academy is extremely proud of our cadets and instructors for their volunteer spirit!
